Update from BLET Tax Compliance department
Wednesday, January 11, 2012
Internal Revenue Service regulations require the BLET National
Division to inform its members that a certain portion of your
National Division dues are not tax deductible as a miscellaneous
itemized deduction on your personal tax returns.
If you are looking for a good tax preparer contact Peter Paszkiewicz. He has been preparing tax returns for many of us for 15 years that know of. He knows a lot about railroad deductions and he even comes to your house to prepare them. He is extremely busy this time of year so leave a voice message or e-mail him. He will send you a check list of the things he will need to prepare your taxes.

Many of you may have noticed a
deduction of points on your EQMS Score recently.
It is most likely because of an automatic

interpretation of rule
9.12.4 in yard limits in the South St.
Paul Terminal - Yardmaster Safety / Job Briefing
as of September 26, 2011.
Look under Prevention Tip of
the Week - Personal Injury
"Yard Limits is
not considered a joint authority as no train or
employee are identified to be joint with in the
limits. In yard limits at absolute stop
indications in ABS, movement must stop and then
pull past 100 feet and wait five minutes before
proceeding at restricted speed. Yardmaster
cannot talk you by a signal. They give
permission for routes, but movements must comply
with rules associated with the route. Rule

Division
333 takes stand against total safety culture
|
|
Total
Safety Culture is coming to the Twin Cities,
even though four transportation locals/divisions
in the Twin Cities Service Unit have voted
collectively not to participate. As we have seen
in other areas, union members are taking it upon
themselves to go against there own
locals/divisions wishes that we not participate
in TSC. It has been suggested that there are
union members already volunteering to be
facilitators and observers for TCS, in the Twin
Cities. In so many words we were told that TSC
is coming whether we want it or not.
Unfortunately, we cannot stop this part of the
process. For this reason we may not be able to
stop TSC from getting off the ground but, we can
stop its flight if we stay unified.
Remember, TSC is strictly voluntary. You heard it in class. You cannot be
observed unless you want to be observed. This is
a very important part of the process. If we stay
unified and respectfully deny “observers” the
permission to observe the process is over. No
observations, no data, no TSC.

HOW To bid an advertised bulletin |
To bid an
advertised bulletin is a little
different than placing a standing
bid.....
Under CMTS…. click on “Bid
Maintenance”….fill in your employee ID
number….hit enter….this should show the
“Standing Bids” that you have entered,
if any, below that should show any
bulletined job available to you for bid,
right now LTB81 will show there….now
left click on the arrow in
“Advertisement Functions”….left click on
“Insert”….go next to “Priority”….if this
is the job that you want, the priority
would be the number 1….next we go to
“Item Number” and put in the item number
that shows on the available bulletin, in
this case it is the # 001….we are now
ready to “Update” our bid page, this
button is at the very bottom of the
page….left click on “Update” and your
bid should come up on the screen.
To remove
an unwanted bid go to same "Bid
Maintenance" screen....on the right hand
side of the second line click on the
arrow in "Standing Bid Function"....
click on "Delete"....go down to the next
line...."Add/Delete Priority"....and
fill in the priority number that you
placed for the bid that you desire
deleted....click "Update"....bid should
be missing from your list of active
bids.

NOT REFUSE CALLS to work Mankato

disciplined. This is being watched

BLET
Short-Term Disability Insurance |
| You are entitled to
short-term disability benefits up to a maximum of 52 weeks if
you are an eligible employee working on a railroad that
participated in the Wage Rules portion of the National Agreement
dated December 16, 2003. The plan pays $362 per week.
|
_small.jpg) |
Effective October 1, 2007, weekly benefits were reduced from
$402 per week to $362 per week. The reduction will not impact
members with existing claims or those who have a disability date
prior to October 1, 2007. They will continue to qualify for the
$402 per week benefit. Only those claims with a date of October
1 or after will be adjusted to $362 per week.
The plan experience is monitored regularly and reviewed
annually. A high number of claims forced the plan to pay more in
benefits that it collected in premiums. This, in addition to the
fact that we were unable to secure payment of a higher premium
from the rail carriers, has forced the Trust Fund to adjust the
benefits accordingly.
To initiate a claim for a sickness, accidental injury on or off
duty, or pregnancy, you may call MetLife Insurance Company at
(800) 858-6506. You must be absent for 14 calendar days before
your claim can be processed. However, if your absence is
scheduled, such as a hospital stay, you may call prior to your
last day of work. If the illness or injury is unanticipated, you
should call MetLife as soon as possible to ensure that your
claim will be processed in a timely manner.
There are no claim forms to be completed. When you call, you
will be asked to provide the following information to an intake
person at the MetLife Claims Center:
Personal Information
Full name (Official name
with railroad)
Address
Telephone number(s)
Social Security number
Date of birth
BLET General Committee
BLET Local Division
Job Information
Railroad on which employed
Date of hire on railroad
Date entered into engine service |
Sickness/Injury Information
Last day worked
Nature of illness/injury
Date of disability
Injury on or off duty
Craft working in at time of injury/onset of illness
Physician's Information for each treating physician
Name
Address
Telephone number
FAX number |
Your railroad submits a list of
employees who qualify for STD insurance to MetLife on a monthly
basis. Based on that information, MetLife determines your
eligibility to file a claim.
MetLife will mail an "Authorization to Disclose Information
About Me" form to you immediately after you report your claim.
It is important that you do the following:
Complete all applicable areas of the form
Sign the form
FAX or mail the form as soon as possible to expedite the claim
(retain original for your records)
Provide your treating physician(s) with a signed copy
Your physician(s) may also ask you to sign a specific
authorization form for their records. Please do so.
